The search for a man missing in the Westport area was stood down this morning after the discovery of a body.

A man, in his 40s, was reported missing late last night and a search operation got underway this morning.

The Ballyglass Coast Guard Unit’s Drone Team were tasked by MRSC Malin to assist Westport CGU in the search operation.

While on route they received an update from Malin to inform them that the person’s body was located.

The team were stood down and returned to base.

The body of the deceased was recovered at around 11:30am this morning from the Carrowniskey River near Cregganbawn.

Gardaí are not treating the matter as suspicious.

A file is being prepared for the Coroner's Court.
