It’s expected that the Diabetes in Pregnancy clinic will be restored at Mayo university Hospital by early next year.

That’s according to Mayo Fianna Fail deputy Dara Calleary. The deputy raised the matter in the Dail after the service was withdrawn from the Castlebar facility a number of weeks ago, and pregnant woman with diabetes are forced to travel to University Hospital Galway for the service as a result.

In a Dail response Minister Donnelly said that a Consultant Endocrinologist is being recruited at present for the position at Mayo University hospital and  an Advanced Nurse Practioner will be taking up a position at the hospital on December 6th.

In addition three Clinical Nurse Specialists will be in place to restore the service in 2022.

Deputy Calleary says he will continue to push for an exact date for restoration of the service but speaking to Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley he says it is welcome news for an important local health service...
