We're now at a critical point in the spread of Covid-19, with a doubling of cases in Mayo and Galway over the past week.
That's according to Dr Breda Smyth, Director of Public Health at the HSE West.
She says almost 80 new cases of the disease are now being confirmed every day in Mayo, and an average of 176 cases per day in Galway.
While the rise in cases is impacting on all age groups, there's been a significant increase over the mid-term break in young people aged 19-24.
Dr Breda Smyth says the increasing number of people contracting the virus will translate into higher numbers of hospitalisations, and she's appealing to anyone with sypmtoms o stay home and get tested.....
