The Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly will be in Roscommon Town this afternoon, to officially open the new Roscommon Hospice Unit.
The 8-bed specialist palliative care unit has been built on a site close to Roscommon Hospital, to offer comfort and dignity to patients and their families.
The unit has cost €6.3 million, and has been paid for entirely through fundraising efforts.
Today's opening comes two years after the official opening of a similar Hospice Unit in Castlebar.
CEO of the Mayo / Roscommon Hospice Martina Jennings told Midwest News that the people of both counties can be proud of what they have achieved.
