Both Galway and Mayo University Hospitals have seen an increase in the number of Covid-19 patients over the past week.

There are currently 28 Covid-positive patients being treated at UHG - up from 25 this time last week - and 18 at Mayo University Hospital - up from 12 a week ago.

Most elective surgeries are being cancelled in the Saolta Group, which runs seven HSE hospitals across the West & Northwest region - including Mayo, Galway and Sligo University Hospital.

Saolta Chief executive Tony Canavan says non-urgent procedures aren't going ahead, due to the Covid surge.....
