The Cabinet has approved the easing of some restrictions from this Friday, but mask wearing, social distancing and the use of vaccination passports have been extended until February 2022.

Nightclubs will be allowed to re-open on Friday, and the 11.30pm closing time for pubs and restaurants is being scrapped.

Attendance limits for outdoor events have been lifted.

However, there's confusion about attendances at large indoor events, with the guidance saying everyone needs to be seated - and events should be subject to sectoral guidelines which may include social distancing.

The caps on attendances at weddings and religious events are being lifted, while a vaccine booster campaign has been confirmed for over 60s, starting immediately.

While there are some anomalies in the guidance issued today by Cabinet, Mayo Fianna Fail Senator Lisa Chambers has welcomed the reopening of the hospitality, entertainment and night-time sector from this Friday, and says further details will be provided in the coming days....
