Almost 55,000 adults are currently on the outpatient waiting list at Galway University Hospital.
That was confirmed to Galway East Independent TD Sean Canney, who says that in excess of 19,000 of these people have been waiting longer than 18 months for an appointment.
Deputy Canney says the outpatient waiting list at the Galway hospital is growing and claims that there seems to be no help or support coming from Government.
He wants to see availability of diagnostic centres for x-rays and ultrasounds in the Primary Care Centre in Tuam and an immediate decision on putting a Minor Injuries Unit in place in Galway.
Deputy Sean Canney told Midwest News that these decisions need to be made swiftly to alleviate pressure on Galway University Hospital.
