A Child Rescue Alert was stood down last night after a young child taken earlier in the day from Co Mayo was located safe and well in the Dublin area.

Gardai issued a Child Rescue Ireland Alert shortly before 6pm yesterday evening, appealing for information on the whereabouts of 2-year old Aoife Haynes Murphy, who had been taken from Swinford Health Centre yesterday morning in contravention of a court order.

Gardai believed Aoife was travelling with her parents, Paul Murphy and Kimberley Haynes in a Black Kia Sportage car, and they were concerned that there was an immediate and serious risk to her health and welfare.

Following a nationwide appeal, Aoife was found safe and well in the Dublin area last night.

A man and woman in their 30's were arrested and are currently detained at a Garda Station in Dublin.

This was just the 9th time such an alert was issued since Child Rescue Ireland was introduced in 2012.
