Investigations are underway into an arson attack at Galway Bohemians Football Club which occurred around 9pm on Saturday night.
Club members and the local community raised the alarm to ensure crews were on-site very quickly.
Severe damage was done to a compound unit where some of the Knocknacarra-based club’s equipment is stored.
A newly installed portaloo was destroyed, along with a length of rope and some traffic cones, which were used temporarily to stop kids running off the grass section and into the Car park.
The club says they will work closely with Galway City Council to replace the portaloo and explore avenues to obtain more permanent toilet facilities.
The damage did not impact any of the club’s football equipment.
Local Fianna Fail Councillor John Connolly was an eye witness to the event as he lives in close proximity to the pitch.
He has been speaking to Midwest News about the disappointing incident.
