It's hoped the contract will be awarded before the end of this year for the new Coast Guard Station in Westport.
That's according to Mayo FG Deputy Michael Ring, who sought an update on the project from the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform.
Deputy Ring was informed that the OPW are engaging with Mayo County Council in relation to the transfer of the site identified for the new Coast Guard Station, and legal contracts for the transfer of the site have been agreed.
Full planning permission has been granted, and the project tender and design documents have been prepared.
Once the site is formally transferred, the project will progress to tender stage, and a contractor will then be appointed to start construction.
Deputy Ring says the proposed new station in Westport is number two on the priority list for the Irish Coast Guard Building programme, and it's hoped the contract will be awarded in the final quarter of this year.
