The exclusion of the Western Rail Corridor and the N26 road project should not be seen as the Government turning its back on the West -that's according to the Minster of State for Business Damien English, who says only projects at the end of reviews and studies were cited in the document launched by Government yesterday.
He insists the Western Rail Corridor is ‘still in play’ under the Strategic Rail Review, currently underway.
It comes following anger and frustration among Mayo TDs yesterday, that there was no commitment in the revised NDP to either reopening the next phase of the Western Rail Corridor, or the N26 road upgrade in Mayo.
A complete review of rail services across the country is underway at present and this will be finished by next year.
