Tributes have been paid following the death of former Mayo County Councillor Vinnie Munnelly.
He served two consecutive terms on Mayo County Council as a Fine Gael elected representative for the Killala area.
Mr Munnelly was first elected in 1979 and was a member until 1991, having retained his seat in the 1985 local election.
A member the Mayo Committee of Agriculture for many years, he was also the father of serving Councillor Jarlath Munnelly.
Vinnie Munnelly’s remains will repose at Lynn’s Funeral Home Killala this evening from 5.30 to 7.30 p.m.
His requiem Mass takes place tomorrow at 1 p.m. in St Patrick's Church, Killala for family, relatives and friends in accordance with Covid-19 guidelines, followed by burial in Killala Cemetery.
Fine Gael Cllr John O’Hara told Midwest News that Vinnie Munnelly was a politician who knew the problems facing his constituents and never failed to get back to them.
