It will be next year, before Day Care Services for the Elderly at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Castlebar will re-open.
That was confirmed today by management of HSE to Castlebar Independent councillor Michael Kilcoyne.
On Tuesday last, HSE Management confirmed that only 5 of the 13 Day Care Services for the Elderly in Mayo have re-opened since the start of the pandemic, but said that the re-opening of the Sacred Heart Hospital facility was imminent, once construction works at the facility were complete.

In light of this, we are estimating that it will be midway through Quarter 1 of 2022 before the Day Service is open. Therefore we are exploring other options to provide day services offsite in Co Mayo which will incur an additional cost and will require additional funding. We have costed these and sought funding nationally to accommodate offsite day services.”
Cllr Kilcoyne says this is far from satisfactory, considering this is an important service for the elderly and he believes the HSE is stalling in re-opening the service…
