At the start of today’s monthly meeting of Ballina Municipal District  tributes were paid to the late Steve Dunford.

The Cathaoirleach of the authority Annie Mae Reape described him as a man with “unmatched energy” who did so much for the commemoration of 1798 in Mayo.

A vote of sympathy was extended by all the councillors present, to Mr Dunford’s wife Bernie and family on their sad loss.

Councillor Seamus Weir said that Steve had made a recent submission to name a lane in Ballina, French Lane – a route that joins the Military Barracks and Pearse Street and he said he hopes the authority will be able to mark his contribution and memory by naming the lane in his honour.
