A rally is taking place in Castlebar at 1pm this afternoon, calling for action from the Government to deal with the worsening housing crisis.
The Mayo Homeless & Housing Coalition - which includes trade unions, political groups, charities and other organisation - are organising the Homes4All rally at Market Square in Castlebar.
They claim that affordable secure housing should be a basic human right.
The coalition has a number of demands -including a ban on so-called vulture and cuckoo funds from the housing sector, more rent controls, and more affordable houses and apartments for people on modest and average incomes.
This is a socially distanced protest with mask wearing advised.
Joe Daly is a member of People Before Profit and is also a spokesperson for the Mayo Homeless and Housing Coalition.
He told Midwest News this lunchtime that the group wants to see a right to housing enshrined into the constitution.
