A Mayo woman was elected councillor for Labour in the Ealing by-election in west London last night.
Claire Tighe, whose parents both hail from Ballycastle, increased Labour's vote share and majority, in what was the party's best ever result in Hobbayne.
Born in Ealing to Mayo parents, Claire grew up in the Ballina area and attended St Marys Secondary School in the town.
Her dad Martin Tighe is from Kilbride in Ballycastle, while Claire's mum sadly passed away a few years ago.
Claire Tighe has been speaking with Midwest Radio's Michael D. McAndrew and he congratulated her on a fantastic result in the local by-election.
