On Friday there will be a brief disruption to traffic on the coast road between Westport and Belclare to facilitate the inaugural Gravel Grind West off-road cycling sportif from 6pm to 7:30pm.
There will be a group of cyclists making their way from the quay to the back of Croagh Patrick and back.
6pm - Depart the Towers Bar and head out the Coast road direction Belclare.
6:15pm - Turn right on Coast Road for 100 meters to the Prospect Junction and ascend the hill to Skelp.
6:30pm cyclists will be descending Tiernacroagha.
7pm - Cyclists will be coming back out at the Prospect/West Road junction at Gannons Garage and going back along the Coast Road to the Quay. All cyclists are expected to be back by 8pm.
On Saturday the 18th there will be possible disruption to traffic around the quay area of Westport and the Golf Course road Junction with the Newport road from 09:00 to 10:00 and from 13:00 to 16:00 due to the Gravel Grind West off-road cycling sportif. Cyclists will depart the Quay from 09:00 to 10:00 and make their way to the Greenway going through Westport House. Caution is advised at the top of the Golfcourse road and at the junction on the N59.
They will make their way down the Greenway to Newport so again Caution is advised in Newport from 09:30 till 10:30 as the cyclists make their way through the town and back onto the Greenway. The cyclists will be crossing the N59 at the Greenway crossing at Derradda from 09:45 till approx 13:30 and will be up and down the local roads around Furnace/Srahmore/Letterkeen for approx 4 hours. Motorists are advised to drive with caution and please keep an eye out. Organisers are sorry for any inconvenience caused.
