School secretaries and school caretakers from across the region will take part in strike action tomorrow, and a protest rally will also take place outside the Dail, as TDs return from their Summer break.
Despite a Government commitment to standardise the pay and conditions of school secretaries and caretakers, they're starting into a new school year with still no progress on the matter, according to Galway East TD Sean Canney.
Those employed directly by schools earn less than those working in ETB schools and are paid by the Department of Education.
Secretaries and caretakers paid by Boards of Management are also on short-term contracts, which means they have to sign-on during school holidays.
