An application being submitted by Eircom to Mayo County Council to erect a 15 metre high monopole in an elevated field, located at Castlebar’s Lough Lannagh is causing widespread local concern.
Many people and interested groups in the Castlebar environs are keen to maintain Lough Lannagh as a peaceful natural, rural landscape, in the centre of the county town, and insist it should not be visually impacted by a mast structure, that will be prominent on the landscape because of its location on a hill.
Those opposed to the development are appealing to anyone in the town or county who shares their views, to submit their observations or objections to Mayo County Council before the 6th of October.
Midwest News was in Lough Lannagh and met with some of those concerned about the impact of a mast on the location.
