49 km of pipe will have to be laid to provide the expanded Murrisk Community Water scheme.
5 million euro in funding for the works was announced earlier this week by Minister Darragh O’Brian.
Over 600 homes and businesses will be connected to the mains with works underway to provide further expansion of the scheme.
The quality of the water supply in the Murrisk area, in the vicinity of Croagh Patrick has been a major issue of concern for some time and local independent councillor Christy Hyland has been assisting local campaigners in highlighting the problem at local, national and international level .
He told Midwest News today that he expects that construction work will begin on this major scheme in April/May of next year (2022)
