The Westport local electoral area has by far the highest incidence rate of Covid-19 in Mayo.
The area recorded 176 new cases of the virus in the two week period that ended on Monday, giving it a rate of 958 per 100,000 population.
That’s almost three times the national average over the same period, which stands at 344 per 100,000.
The Ballina LEA was the only other area in Mayo to record an incidence rate in excess of the national average at 351 per 100,000, representing 88 new cases.
Four LEA’s recorded rates of infection below the national average; it was 320 in Claremorris 86 cases, 207 in Castlebar 62 cases, 159 in Belmullet 20 cases and 127 in Swinford per 100,000, translating to 22 cases.
With a rate of 1,034, the Galway City Central LEA had the third highest incidence rate in the country, after Carndonagh and Buncrana in Donegal.
