The Delta variant has led to an 88 per cent increase in cases here over the past week - with a rise in every county.

1,110 new cases were reported yesterday.

Every county has seen an increase in cases over the past week, according to the deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn, who's warning that 16-30 year olds are particularly impacted at present.

Dr Glynn says the increase in case numbers is translating into increased numbers of Covid patients in hospital.

Mayo University Hospital now has the second-highest number of Covid-positive patients.

Letterkenny has the highest at 14 patients, with 13 Covid-positive patients now at Mayo University Hospital - down from 15 yesterday.

There are currently 4 patients with Covid being treated in both Sligo and Galway University Hospitals, and 2 at Portiuncla Hospital in Ballinsloe.
