The HSE is reporting a dramatic increase in the number of Covid-19 cases across the West over the past 5 days.
Case numbers have doubled in Co Mayo, and tripled in Galway - with young adults being particularly hit by infection - and this age group remains largely unvaccinated.
Health officials are urging people to continue to practice public health behaviours - such as washing hands, wearing a mask and avoiding large gatherings.
Dr Breda Smyth, Director of Public Health for HSE West, says it's clear we're now on the upward curve of the 4th wave of Covid-19 infection, and everyone needs to remain vigilant - whether or not they're vaccinated.
Dr Smyth told Midwest News this lunchtime about the dramatic rise in positive cases across Mayo and Galway in recent days.....
