Newport in Co Mayo and Oak Park in Carlow were the hottest spots in Ireland today, with temperatures of 28 degrees, according to Met Eireann.

The weather stations in Athenry, Gurteen and Mount Dillon in Roscommon all registered 27 degrees this afternoon, and just slightly cooler in Claremorris at 26 degrees, 24 degrees in Knock and 22 in Belmulet.

Met Eireann says the current warm weather will continue until Friday, with day time temperatures into the high 20's, and very humid at night with temperatures staying in the mid to high teens.
