Airlines, airports and the tourism industry are preparing for an uptick in business from this morning as travel restrictions into and out of the country are eased.

From today, Ireland joins the rest of the EU in implementing the Digital Covid Certificate.

Fully vaccinated people, those recently recovered from Covid-19 or can present a negative test are allowed travel around the European Union.

Over 22 thousand people are expected to pass through Dublin Airport today, as Aer Lingus and Ryanair have both ramped up their schedules.

The Managing Director at Ireland West Airport Knock Joe Gilmore says today is D-Day but admits the recovery will take time.
