The Cabinet will meet today to sign off on new legislation that will pave the way for the reopening of indoor hospitality.

Under the proposals, unvaccinated children will be allowed inside pubs and restaurants when they fully reopen.

They will have to be accompanied by an adult who is either fully vaccinated or has recently recovered from Covid-19 infection.

An infectious disease consultant says every step that is opened up will lead to increased transmission of the virus.

RCSI Senior Lecturer Eoghan de Barra says once people are mixing there's going to be an increase in case numbers.

576 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed yesterday evening, with 58 patients in hospital - a rise of 6 on the previous day.
