The success rate in detecting those involved in drug dealing in Mayo is high, but shows that the drug trade is thriving.
That's according to Garda Superintendent Joe McKenna, who says that while Gardai know a lot of the drug dealers operating in the county, and have been successful in prosecuting some of those responsible, there's always someone willing to replace them, as it's a lucrative business.
Superintendent McKenna told last Friday's meeting of the Mayo Joint Policing Committee that 54 drug detections have been recorded in the Mayo Garda division so far this year.
Drugs worth over €713,000 have been seized, along with €68,000 in cash.
