A new Bill aims to give people extra-time to complete their house builds following the fallout from the pandemic.
That's according to Mayo Fianna Fáil Senator Lisa Chambers, who says the Planning and Development Amendment Bill provides for disruption caused to the construction sector.
An amendment allows for the extension of planning permissions by up to two years or until the end of 2023.
It will also grant local authorities more time to prepare county development plans and gives planning authorities the option of extending existing development plans in the interim.
Senator Chambers told Midwest News that these extensions will be important for people in Mayo looking to build homes in rural areas.
