Over 100,000 children are waiting for hospital treatment.

The Irish Hospital Consultants Association says 40,000 are on lists longer than a year.

It's warning a shortage of consultants across all paediatric specialties is restricting children from accessing care.

The IHCA says 1 in 5 permanent consultant posts remain vacant.

Latest figures from the National Treatment Purchase Fund show over 885,000 people on some form of waiting list - almost 1 in 9 of these are children.
