Fáilte Ireland has announced funding of over €20 million euro for Westport House Estate & Gardens towards its development as a world-class visitor attraction.

A key element of the investment will be in the "Wild Realms" project, which will allow visitors to connect with nature, and enjoy the wild flora and native woodlands across the 300-acre estate.

Westport House and Gardens will also be restored.  Visitors can enjoy the enhanced experience of the grand house with its formal gardens and learn about the Grace O’Malley family who lived there for centuries.

Failte Ireland CEO Paul Flynn says the funding and subsequent developments at Westport House Estate and Gardens will entice domestic and international tourists to the West of Ireland for years to come.

For over 300 years, the Browne family- who built the house - lived there before it was sold in 2017 to the Hughes family in Westport.

The CEO of Westport House Estate and Gardens Barry O’Connor told Midwest News that there are three projects that will be developed through today’s funding and they are delighted with the news...
