Clerical changes in the Diocese of Achonry haven been announced this afternoon by Bishop Paul Dempsey.
Fr Vincent Sherlock, Parish Priest of Kilmovee is appointed Parish Priest of Tubbercurry
Fr Joseph Gavigan, the Parish Priest of Ballaghaderreen is appointed as Parish Priest of Kilmovee
Fr Paul Kivlehan, Curate in Ballaghaderreen, is appointed Administrator of Ballaghaderreen
The appointments come into effect on August 15th
In announcing these appointments Bishop Dempsey has written to the priests and people of the diocese. His letter is published on achonrydiocese.org
In it he thanks Fr. Vincent, Fr. Joe and Fr. Paul for their service and generosity and wishes them every blessing and encouragement in their new appointments. He thanks the people of Tubbercurry Parish for their patience in awaiting the appointment of a new Parish Priest. He also expresses his gratitude to Fr. Peter Gallagher and Fr. Dan O’Mahony for looking after Tubbercurry Parish in the absence of a Parish Priest.
When the new appointments begin in August, he says, there will be one priest per parish.
He also acknowledges the services of retired priests and those involved in education who generously help out and provide cover.
The Cathedral Parish of Ballaghaderreen will be served by one priest, having had three a few years ago. This, Bishop Dempsey explains, will involve changes to schedules and he looks for the understanding of parishioners.
