The N5 Bypass from Ballaghaderreen to Scramogue has been signed off on by the Minister.

That’s according to Fianna Fail Senator Eugene Murphy, who says the project represents an investment in excess of €200 million for County Roscommon by the Government.

The new piece of infrastructure will see 34km of new single carriageway bypassing the towns and villages of Frenchpark, Bellanagare, Tulsk and Strokestown.

Enabling works have been underway including archaeological assessments, ground investigation and fencing and hedgerow removal.

The road forms part of the main Westport to Dublin route and the section in question between Ballaghaderreen to Scramogue has been the site of many tragic collisions in recent years.

The Minister for Public Expenditure Michael McGrath signed off on the plans on Friday and it will now go immediately to Transport Minister Eamon Ryan, before going before Cabinet.

Senator Murphy told Midwest News that this project will give Roscommon and the west and economic boost once completed.
