Over 42,000 euro in drugs were seized by Gardai over the weekend in Castlebar and Westport and in total three people were arrested.
On Friday morning local gardai working with the Drugs Task Force and the Dog unit searched a house under warrant in Castlebar town. 700 euro in suspected cannabis herb with an estimated street value of 700 euro was seized. A male in his twenties was arrested in connection with the discovery. He was later released without charge and a file is being prepared for the DPP.
Later on Friday, another house in Castlebar was searched under warrant and suspected cannabis herb with an estimated street value of 1600 euros was recovered. There were no arrests in connection with this find however, a man in his twenties is assisting gardai in their enquiries and a file is to be prepared for the DPP.
Than on Friday evening a house was searched under warrant in Killsallagh Westport and what is suspected to be 2 kilos of cannabis herb was discovered with an estimated street value of 40,000 euro.
Two people were arrested in connection with this seizure – a female in her 20s and a male in his 40s.
They were taken to Castlebar garda station for questioning under Section 2 of the Drugs Trafficking Act 1996. The man was released without charge on Saturday and the woman was released without charge yesterday (Sunday) with a file being prepared for the DPP.
