The 6th class students of Belcarra National School, outside Castlebar were this morning out at the front of their school building monitoring the speed of passing vehicles.
They were assisted and guided in their task by community Garda Olive Lafferty and Garda Hugh McHugh of the county Traffic Corps.
This morning’s exercise was initiated by Mayo County Council’s Road Safety Officer Noel Gibbons
Belcarra National School is located on a busy road at the entrance to the village from the Castlebar side, and the school community, like communities across the region, are keen to ensure that it’s safe for all to walk and cycle to school.
