The crew of the Sligo-based Rescue 118 helicopter responded to a number of call outs over the weekend - 6 in total - including three yesterday in the Donegal bay area.
One call out was for a child blown out to sea on an inflatable toy.
He was rescued before the helicopter crew got to the scene
Earlier, the rescue helicopter travelled to Inishbofin to assist to sea kayakers in difficulty.
The experienced kayakers had the correct emergency equipment and used it effectively by deploying their locating beacon and then contacting the Coast Guard on their VHF marine radio. A number of vessels including both of Clifden’s RNLI lifeboats assisted. The kayakers were rescued by one of the Inishbofin ferries in the area and assessed by the RNLI crew.
The Irish Coast Guard is urging anyone going out on the water to bring the right equipment and know how to use it, and to tell someone when you expect to be back.
