Gardai in Sligo have warned that a recent bonfire lit in the forest at Airport Road in Strandhill resulted in a delay in the Rescue 118 helicopter from taking off, due to smoke from the fire.
Gardai say that, while lighting a fire in the woods might seem like a night's fun for some people, it could have devastating consequences.
They're reminding the public that the work carried out by the staff of Rescue 118 is life-saving, and every minute matters.
On this occasion, the delay in take-off did not result in tragedy, but Gardai say it might be a different story the next time.
They will be carrying out further patrols of the area, and say those responsible for lighting such fires could be prosecuted.
Gardai are asking parents to know where their children are and what they're doing, and are pleading with the public not to light fires in the woods.
