Mayo County Council must facilitate and encourage outdoor dining wherever possible as Covid-19 restrictions ease.
That's according to Fine Gael Councillor Michael Burke, who says many hospitality businesses have been closed for 14 months and now need a break.
He argues that many restaurants and pubs in rural towns do not have outdoor spaces at the back of their businesses and will therefore need parking spaces as seating areas.
The Ballinrobe-based Councillor is also calling for town bylaws, which ban outdoor drinking, to be paused temporarily.
Councillor Burke told Midwest News that these measures would allow businesses to get back trading, albeit at a reduced level.
