Carphone Warehouse is to close its 80 stores in Ireland with immediate effect.
The company operates a number of stores across the West - including in Claremorris, Castlebar, Roscommon, Sligo, Carrick on Shannon, and several stores in Galway.
It is understood up to 500 workers nationally will be affected by the closure, and staff have been informed of the decision.
Carphone Warehouse has blamed the decision on "the changing way customers buy mobile devices, replacing their handsets less often and buying them separately or as part of more flexible bundles."
The company says the decision to close its stores in Ireland is in line with its decision to close all standalone Carphone Warehouse stores in the UK last year.
Its website has now also been closed.
