The Chair of the Mayo Vintner’s Federation Alan Gielty says all pubs and hotels should open at the same time when restrictions on the hospitality sector are eased.
The owner of Gielty’s Bar and Restaurant in Dooagh says there’s been little communication from government on a roadmap to reopening the sector.
The member of the Vintner’s lobbying group says the vaccine rollout needs to be ‘an awful lot quicker’ if society is to feel safe about returning to pubs.
He also accused Failte Ireland and Government of trying to create divisions between pubs serving food and so-called wet pubs.
Alan Gielty told Midwest News that if alcohol is to blame for the spread of the virus then off-licences should have been closed alongside pubs at the start of the pandemic.
