The over 80s age group should be given more freedoms once they are fully vaccinated.
That’s the view of Mayo Fianna Fail Senator Lisa Chambers, who yesterday called for a debate to be had in the Seanad in advance of the potential re-opening on April the 5th.
The Castlebar-based Oireachtas member believes younger people will not begrudge older people from getting back to living and using public amenities once they are inoculated.
She insists that there is no need to keep everyone locked up in the interim and suggested that vaccinated front-line health care workers and the elderly could, for example, access facilities like public pools.
Senator Chambers told Midwest News that she believes a more flexible approach should be taken in reopening the country.
