Roscommon County Council has cleaned up an illegal dumping blackspot in Ballaghadereen.
The site, which is at an unfinished housing development on the Charlestown Road, has been a dumping ground for years for all kinds of waste, including household, electric and clothing, according to local TD Claire Kerrane, who has welcomed the council's intervention.
The Sinn Fein TD said this was a health & safety concern in a residential area of the town, and popular area for walkers, as some locals claimed the illegal dumping has been going on for up to 4 years.
Deputy Kerrane says the penalties currently in place are not deterring people from illegal dumping, and stronger laws are needed.
She's also calling for movement on the unfinished housing units, which she says should be brought into use.
