One in every 18 people in Belmullet had Covid-19 over the past fortnight according to new figures from the HSE.
The North Mayo local electoral area is the worst affected by coronavirus nationally, with an infection rate of 5,556 cases per 100,000 from January 5th to 18th, accounting for 700 cases.
This represents a slight decrease from last week’s rate of infection, when the area had a rate of 6,031.
The next worst-affected area in the country was Enniscorthy in Co Wexford, with an incidence rate of 3,291.
Connemara North in Co Galway was the area with the lowest infection rate in the Republic, reporting 407 cases per 100,000.
