As rising Covid-19 cases puts increasing pressure on the health service, Midwest News has learnt that up to 5 ambulances were backed up at Mayo University Hospital last night, and it took several hours before the ambulance personnel could transfer the patients to hospital staff.
Castlebar-based Independent Councillor Michael Kilcoyne says it's not an acceptable situation, and also says ambulance staff should be offered Covid-19 vaccines as soon as possible.
Midwest News has looked for clarification from the Saolta Hospital Group, which operates Mayo University Hospital, and we're awaiting a response.
