The cabinet will meet tomorrow to discuss the rapid spread of Covid-19, and the sharp rise in hospital admissions.

There has been a jump in the number of patients with confirmed cases of Covid-19 today at Mayo University Hospital.

The number of patients has risen from 9 to 19 over the past 48 hours.

There are more people in hospital with Covid-19 today than any day since May 15th.

409 patients are in hospital with the virus, which is 49 more than yesterday.

It's significantly more than the peak during the second wave, when 354 people  were hospitalised on October 27th.

Tony O'Brien, the former director-general of the HSE, says the number of Covid admissions is very concerning.
