The Chief Medical Officer believes there are higher levels of covid 19 circulating in the community than today's case numbers reflect.

Dr. Tony Holohon expects a large increase in cases over the coming days, due to the lower volume of tests being carried out over Christmas.

744 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed, with 4 more deaths. The country's 14-day incidence rate is 209.6.

There are 21 new cases in Galway, 18 in Mayo, twelve in Sligo, five in Roscommon and less than five in Leitrim.
