In schools across the region Christmas Nativity plays and concerts were always central to these last days in school ahead of the Christmas holidays, but not so this year due to the Covid 19 pandemic.
However, the students in St John’s Primary School in Breaffy outside Castlebar have got an opportunity to shine, despite the virus.
The two sixth class teachers John Moran and Liam Shevlin working with their classes organised through zoom, a talent show for the entire school.
Each class performed their concert item in the large school hall and the performances were zoomed into all the classrooms so that the entire school community could enjoy the performances.
To add to the excitement, 6th class students are acting as judges and there will be prizes in the talent competition for participants in each class.
Midwest news spoke to one of the organising 6th class teachers Liam Shevlin and to George Moran, the Principal of St John’s and they explained how the school has managed to retain “the Christmas concert” theme in a Covid era.
