Five areas in Co Mayo are the first in the county connected under the Government's National Broadband Plan, and will be launched on 11th December.

The five sites launching on that date are - Bofeenaun, Clare Island, Islandeady, Killasser and Taugheen Community Centres.

Mayo FG TD Alan Dillon says there has been significant development in these rural areas, which will provide communities with high-speed internet access at publicly-accessible sites, under the Government's Connected Communities initiative.

Deputy Dillon says the Covid-19 crisis has shown the value of digital technology in enabling workers, businesses and families to stay connected, and the Broadband Connection Points are intended to bring people together through digital connectivity.
