A significant number of staff remain on Covid leave from a HSE nursing home in Ballina, according to Breda Crehan- Roche the Chief Officer with Community Healthcare West.
At a Regional Health West meeting yesterday, in response to a written question from local councillor John O’Hara, Ms Crehan-Roche stated that the overall situation in St Augustine’s nursing home has improved but there continues to be significant numbers of staff on Covid leave.
Cllr O’Hara had sought an up-to-date position on the male ward in Ballina District Hospital. There had been plans to move patients from the male ward in the District Hospital to other facilities in the county, in order to allow staff from Ballina District Hospital be redeployed to assist St Augustines and other Older People Services facilities dealing with Covid 19 outbreaks.
HSE management explained that that the contingency plan has been stood down but stated quite clearly that it ‘may be re-activated if required again.’
Ballina District Hospital is now taking new admissions to the male ward.
