Searches for a man missing from the north Mayo area were called off today due to deteriorating weather conditions.

The man, who's in his late 60's and living in Lacken, was last seen on Thursday afternoon.

His car was located on Friday at Downpatrick Head, sparking off an extensive search operation.

Land and sea searches were conducted over the weekend, involving the Coastguard, Civil Defence, Gardai, the Grainne Uaile sub-aqua club, Moy River search & rescue and local volunteers.

The searches scheduled for today were called off due to the weather, while it's understood divers will be on site by Wednesday, once weather conditions become suitable.

The Gardaí have thanked volunteer groups and the local community for their assistance in the search operations over the weekend.
