Cannabis, cannabis herb and cocaine were seized by gardai in Ballina today following a planned search of homes in the area.

The estimated street value of the substances recovered was in excess of 20,000 euro.

The Divisional Drugs taskforce, assisted by local gardai in Ballina, the Garda Armed Support Unit, and the Garda dog unit searched more than a dozen properties under a warrant issued under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

A total of 12 private dwellings were searched and a further two derelict properties.

In one of the searches there was a seizure of cannabis with an estimated street value of 20,000 recovered. In another search suspected cocaine was seized, with an estimated street value of 500 euro and cannabis herb worth an estimated 1000 euro.

One person was arrested in connection with the sale and supply of drugs and is being detained at Ballina garda station.

Garda Supt Joe Doherty told Midwest News this evening that today’s planned operation was part of an ongoing operation over the past 12 months aimed at persons selling and supplying drugs in the Ballina area.

He thanked the general public for their assistance and urged anyone with any suspicions regarding the sale and supply of drugs in their area to contact any garda station in confidence.
